Spend a day among lake reflections, village paths and high mountain views. Pick a corner of the Val d’Hérens to explore, then return to Rosalys for a quiet evening above the valley.
Above Evolène, the climb to Lac d’Arbey leads to a lake at about 1,780 metres. Timber chalets dot the surroundings and, when the water is still, the Dent Blanche appears in its reflection. Bring a picnic and linger at one of the tables by the lake.
At Euseigne, stone caps balance on slender columns of earth. Erosion has shaped the ground around them, leaving the towers standing above the valley. The marked walk leads to viewpoints where you can see the formations against the slopes behind them.
Walk through meadows towards the historic hamlet of Ossona, with views across the valley towards the Euseigne pyramids. The Grande Combe footbridge brings an airy crossing to this intermediate route and offers another perspective on the valley’s steep sides.
Below the high mountains of Grande Dixence, the turquoise Lac des Dix stretches along the valley. The lakeside walk is an out-and-back route, so you can turn around when you’ve had your fill of the view. Give this outing its own day.
Take an e-bike out around Thyon and make time for a village stop. Hérémence, Prolin, Mâche and Riod offer a different rhythm from the open mountain landscape above them. The local tourist office has route ideas and lists rentals and guided outings.
